Find the Right Program For You →Current Struggle You Might Be Facing
-
Your gut reacts before you can think
-
Symptoms flare the moment pressure rises
-
You scan your body for signs something is wrong
-
Mornings feel unsafe before work or school
-
You avoid food, places, or plans just in case
-
Tests come back “normal” - but nothing feels normal
-
Anxiety spills into sleep and daily life
This isn’t in your head.
Your gut and nervous system are reacting automatically to stress.
Why You Might Still Be Stuck
- Diets and fixes quiet symptoms only temporarily
-
Anxiety tools help in the moment, not the cycle
-
Standard approaches treat mind or body, not the connection
-
Your gut learned to react fast and never fully stood down
That’s why symptoms keep returning
Not because you’re failing, but because the gut–brain stress response hasn’t fully settled.
How This Therapy Helps You
- Calm an overactive gut–brain stress response
-
Reduce digestive sensitivity and flare intensity
-
Stop urgency and anxiety from running your day
-
Rebuild confidence, control, and trust in your body
-
Feel steady and safe in your body again
Without avoiding food, places, or living in fear of flare-ups.
Why This Approach Works When Other Things Haven’tÂ
IBS and stress-related gut symptoms aren’t random.
They’re driven by an automatic gut–brain stress response that learned to stay on high alert.
👉 Diets and supplements can reduce triggers, but they don’t retrain the stress response
👉  Medication can dampen symptoms, but the gut still reacts under pressure
👉  Generic anxiety tools calm the mind, while the gut continues to overreact
This therapy works by calming and retraining the gut–brain connection itself.
As the nervous system settles, the gut stops reacting so quickly - and symptoms lose their grip.
The goal isn’t coping better.
It’s helping your gut feel safe again, so symptoms no longer run the show.
What Is IBS Hypnotherapy?
IBS hypnotherapy is a gut–mind approach that works with the communication loop between the nervous system and the digestive system, often referred to as the gut–brain axis.
This connection runs both ways. It means your gut doesn’t just respond to food, but also to stress, pressure, anticipation, and emotional load, sometimes instantly.
When the nervous system stays in a heightened or protective state, the gut can begin to react defensively - even when medical tests appear normal.
Why Your Gut Reacts to Stress
Your gut and brain are in constant communication through the gut–brain axis. When stress levels rise, this pathway can become over-activated, sending signals that something is wrong - even when there is no physical danger.
This is why stress can trigger IBS symptoms such as:
-
Sudden urgency or bathroom anxiety
-
Nausea, bloating, or abdominal cramping
-
Appetite changes or food avoidance
-
Brain fog, fatigue, and digestive exhaustion
These symptoms are real and physical.
They are not imagined, exaggerated, or “all in your head.”
IBS is not your gut malfunctioning - it is your gut trying to protect you.
How IBS Hypnotherapy Works
My approach integrates CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) with specialist gut-directed hypnotherapy, which is more targeted than general hypnotherapy.
CBT helps identify and shift thought–response patterns that can maintain gut sensitivity, such as anticipation, monitoring, avoidance, or fear around symptoms.
Gut-directed hypnotherapy works directly with the gut-brain connection, supporting nervous system regulation and reducing digestive reactivity.
Together, this approach helps the nervous system downshift out of survival mode, so the gut no longer needs to stay on constant alert.
This supports:
-
Calming nervous system reactivity
-
Reducing gut sensitivity and urgency
-
Rebuilding a sense of safety in the gut
-
Supporting more regulated digestion over time
When the gut-mind connection feels safer, digestion can begin to settle naturally, without forcing the body or fighting symptoms.
Who IBS Hypnotherapy Can Help
IBS hypnotherapy can be helpful for:
-
Adults with long-term IBS symptoms and general gut and anxiety issues
-
People whose tests are normal but symptoms persist
-
Those whose gut symptoms worsen with stress or pressure
-
Teenagers experiencing gut symptoms linked to anxiety or overwhelm
-
Individuals stuck in cycles of anticipation, avoidance, or fear around digestion
Sessions are adapted to the individual, whether symptoms are mild, severe, recent, or long-standing.
Is IBS Hypnotherapy Evidence-Based?
Yes, Gut-directed hypnotherapy is recognised as a behavioural treatment option for IBS and has been studied for its effects on global IBS symptoms, gut sensitivity, and quality of life.
This approach targets the nervous system patterns that influence digestion, rather than focusing only on food, medication, or symptom suppression.
It is particularly relevant when IBS symptoms persist despite medical reassurance or dietary changes.

Why I Specialise in Gut-Mind Therapy
I specialise in helping adults and children with IBS and stress-sensitive digestion, where symptoms continue to disrupt daily life.
My work focuses on the gut-brain connection, the two-way communication system between your nervous system and your digestive tract. When this system becomes over-alert, digestion shifts into protection mode, leading to symptoms such as urgency, pain, bloating, nausea, or unpredictable bowel habits.
I combine evidence-based gut-directed hypnotherapy, CBT, and nervous system regulation to help calm digestive sensitivity at its source, rather than simply managing symptoms.
My interest in this work comes from both clinical training and lived understanding. I know how stress can register in the body long before it’s fully recognised in the mind - and how powerfully the gut responds when the system feels under pressure.
Alongside structured therapy, I use brief, focused regulation techniques to help clients settle flare-ups between sessions, build confidence in their body’s signals, and create steadier, more predictable digestion over time.
My approach is structured, compassionate, and practical - designed to support real life. Whether that’s getting through the workday without constant monitoring, leaving the house without fear of urgency, or feeling more at ease in your body again.
Professional Background
My own experience with gut–mind challenges drove me to specialise in evidence-based methods that create real, lasting change. I integrate cognitive science, nervous system regulation, and practical tools from gut–brain research to help both teens and adults feel safe and in control again.
I am an accredited Clinical Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist (Level 5, NCFE) with additional specialist training in Paediatric Hypnotherapy (Dip Hyp Paediatrics) and Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy for IBS and functional gut disorders.
My approach combines CBT, clinical hypnotherapy, and mind–body physiology with the latest understanding of the gut–brain axis.
My practice is structured, compassionate, and practical — helping clients reduce symptoms, build confidence, and regain quality of life in the moments that matter most: school days, work, sport, and everyday routines.

Not Sure Where to Start?
Discover Your Gut-Mind Pattern
Your mind is brilliant - but when it’s overloaded, your body often speaks up first.
It might show up as tension in your stomach, sudden tightness in your chest, or waves of fatigue that seem to come from nowhere. These aren’t random. They’re your body’s way of communicating stress, safety, and overload.
This short Gut–Mind Pattern Finder helps you understand how your thoughts, emotions, nervous system, and digestion interact - and where your system tends to start under pressure.
Rather than giving you a label or score, it highlights patterns in how your body responds, so you can begin working with it instead of fighting symptoms.
Once you understand your gut-mind pattern, you can start retraining that connection - calming your body, clearing mental noise, and restoring balance from the inside out.

What My Clients Have to Say;
JH - Teen Gut Issues & Anxiety
Kym helped me sort out the problems with my stomach and the anxiety I used to feel every day. I don’t get those issues before school anymore, and now I only need to get up 30 minutes before I leave instead of two hours.
BS - Anxiety, Gut Issues & Overwhelm
Before working with Kym, I was constantly overthinking and my gut symptoms were always flaring. I feel calmer, clearer, and far more confident now. My stomach is settled, and I finally understand how to manage my symptoms instead of worrying about them. I would highly recommend this program
LG - Pain & Anxiety
